Kin and Commune Support for Orphans: This research project will study the long-term consequences of orphanhood in Cambodia. Specifically, it aims to provide an understanding of orphans’ transition to adulthood. Three main research questions are:
(1) What evidence is there of disadvantages for maternal and/or paternal orphans, and for their social siblings?
(2) How do disadvantages vary between orphans, in particular with respect to the lost parent(s) (maternal and/or paternal) and the kinship relation with the social parent(s)?
(3) Is there evidence for specific mechanisms that may contribute to orphan disadvantages (e.g., weaker attachment between orphans and their social parents) or alleviate them (e.g., social solidarity norms)?
