Students who wish to receive certification must sit the examination at the end of their study period or level.

Advanced Study of Khmer Program
Besides the flagship, four-level Khmer for Foreigners program, the Khmer for Foreigners team also accepts students learning Khmer at overseas universities to undertake a six-week Khmer-language practicum. The Advanced Study of Khmer Program (ASK) allows overseas students majoring in Khmer Studies to acquire the linguistic foundation necessary to engage in academic research, professional discourse and cultural interaction with all segments of Cambodian society.

The ASK program consists of structured, six-week academic program, consisting of four hours of task-based language instruction in the morning and of three hours of pre-arranged field trips, site visits and related activities in the afternoons and weekends. The ASK course is equivalent to two semesters of regular language study.

Students from the University of Hawaii and other universities have undertaken the ASK program every year since 2002. Their progression is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Fulbright-Hays and Group Projects.

Khmer Language for French Speakers
Instead of the Khmer for Foreigners course, French native speakers can elect to take the Khmer Language for French Speakers, which is offered by the Department of Linguistics. This course is tailored to suit French professionals and others. Please contact the Department of Linguistics for further information.
