COURSE CODE English III-VI

[First][Previous] 1 2 3 4 [Next] [Last]

Years II-III, Semesters I & II
As most textbooks and research books in Cambodia are written in English or French, foreign language acquisition is essential for professors and students alike. The development of students’ knowledge base and research skills across all disciplines at the Royal University of Phnom Penh is an outstanding goal of this foreign language program.

Year One

SBI201  Organic Chemistry
SBI202  Organic Chemistry Lab
Mr. Thong Raing Seys
Year II, Semester I

Students learn the fundamentals of organic chemistry, including the structure and properties of organic compounds, bonding and molecular structure, chemical reactivity, conformation, and stereochemistry. They also study homology, nomenclature, preparation and properties of hydrocarbons, including alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and dienes, cyclic hydrocarbons and Alkyl Halides.

SBI203   Cytology
Mr. Hap Sophorn
Year II, Semester I
This course is a detailed study of cells and their components. Students learn about nuclear and cell division, meiosis and fertilization, and how they relate to development. They learn about cell physiology, physical and analytical chemistry principles for the study of structure and functions of cells and organelles, cell metabolism, cell membranes, and the physiological responses of cells to the environment in both plants and animals. The cytology lab gives students an opportunity to practice and demonstrate their understanding of cell types and structures of animals and plants, and cell physiology.

SBI204   Invertebrate Zoology
SBI205   Invertebrate Zoology Lab
Mr. Kauv Samnang
Year II, Semester I

Students learn about morphology, anatomy, organ systems, taxonomy and the evolution of various vertebrates, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. The laboratory component gives

students an opportunity to put their learning about morphology and anatomy into practice.

SBI206   Human Anatomy
Mr. Thay Ieng Ly
Year II, Semester I
Students gain an understanding of the structure, morphology, position and organization of different organs in the human body. Students are expected to know about the evolution of organs and the possible diseases of each. They analyze tissues, bones and muscles, as well as the nervous, endocrine, digestive, respiratory, urinary, circulatory and reproductive systems.

SBI207   General Ecology
Mr. Eam Piseth
Year II, Semester I
In this course, students explore the effects of environmental factors on organisms in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. They learn about adaptation, distribution and interaction in plants and animals, community succession and energy transfer, and behavioral and population ecology. Students also learn about applying ecology to natural resource conservation and wildlife management.

SBI208 Freshwater Ecology
SBI209 Freshwater Ecology Lab
Mr. Uk On Norong
Year II, Semester I

Freshwater Ecology entails the study of aquatic organisms in the environmental conditions found in lakes and streams. Lotic and lentic waters are characterized and contrasted, and students deal with the physical, chemical and biological components of these systems. Laboratory exercises attempt to provide practical experience parallel to the theoretical and conceptual aspects of the lectures. Individual laboratory exercises focus on data collection for description or analysis of the characteristics of fresh water, solutes and suspensions in water, including the biota of aquatic habitats, the actions inherent to that biota, and the human use, consumption and appreciation of aquatic ecosystems. Laboratory exercises parallel lectures and assignments, building students understanding of water and water chemistry; primary production supported by phytoplankton, other algae, cryptograms, or rooted macrophytes; secondary production by zooplankton, macrobenthos, and fish; energy webs; and sediments.
