Course Structure

The M.Sc. (Mathematics) is taught through a series of intensive, subject-specific modules of 45 hours, each taken over a period of roughly three or four weeks.

The courses are divided in three categories : basic courses which are common to the two specialities (only at M2 level) and specific courses for each of the two specialities (fundamental mathematics and applied mathematics). For the M1 level (year 2010-2011), the courses of the fundamental speciality are : Topology, Complex analysis, Geometry, Real analysis and Discrete mathematics ; the courses of the applied speciality are : Ordinary differential equations, Probability I, Statistics I and Numerical analysis I. For the M2 level (year 2011-2012), the basic courses common to the two specialities are : Functional Analysis, Introduction to Partial Differential Equations and their approximations and Topology II. The courses of the fundamental speciality are: Commutative Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Group Theory, Number Theory and Projective Geometry; last, the courses of the applied speciality are: Applied Probability and Statistics, Optimization, Introduction to Stochastic Processes and Numerical Analysis II.

All courses are taught by recognized professors from overseas universities; it should be ideally done in association with a member of staff from the Department of Mathematics at the Royal University of Phnom Penh.

At the same time as the students attending the final year require to do project report or research writing to enable them to experience in research activities which is the foundation for further studies. Research topics will be given to students so as they can select and work under co-supervision of foreign professors or lecturers who have come to teach in the courses in first and final year of the master program and their counterparts at the local department. The students communicate with the foreign supervisors through email or any other electronic communications.
