Admission

Eligibility

The M.A. program in Philosophy at RUPP is a rigorous program designed to prepare students to pursue doctoral studies abroad and/or to serve as professors of philosophy, civil servants, or leaders in other organizations. Students seeking admission to the M.A. in Philosophy program at RUPP must meet the following requirements:

  1. B.A. degree (with 03 credits in Philosophy/ Religions subjects);

  2. Minimum GPA of 3.0 in the B.A. program;

  3. Competence in English proven via either

    • earning a score of at least 475 TOFEL ITP or equivalent internationally-recognized test or

    • passing the English Language Entrance Examination conducted by the Admission Exam Committee of RUPP.

  4. Entrance Examination (Subjects: Philosophy and English)

  5. Interview in English conducted by Admission Exam Committee. (only for candidates who passed the entrance exam)

Required Application Materials

Students seeking admission to the M.A. in Philosophy program at RUPP must submit / complete the following:

  1. Application form with passport photo (4x6). (Please click here to download and filled in both English and Khmer Forms filled by handwriting)

  2. Admission Ticket (Filled by handwriting)

  3. Statement of purpose for the program (maximum of 1000 words) written in English;

  4. Two letters of recommendation written by professors;

  5. Academic certificate, transcript and other relevant documents.

Thesis Requirement

Students are required to write an M.A. thesis in their final semester. The number of words for the thesis is between 20,000 and 25,000 words, including footnotes but excluding appendices and bibliographies. The thesis must follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style guide.

During Term 4, students are required to take a Thesis Seminar which aims to help students find a thesis topic, complete their thesis proposal, and understand how to apply the tools and knowledge garnered in the Philosophical Research Methods to the thesis writing project. At this time, students must also select a Thesis Supervisor who will guide students individually through this process.

In order to begin writing the thesis, the student must have done the following:

  1. Completed 21 credits of philosophy course work in the M.A. program;

  2. Earned a score at least 550 ITP TOEFL or the TOEFL iBT or equivalent English test;

  3. Have the thesis proposal approved by the Thesis Supervisor.

There will be a defense of the thesis before a committee of three professors including the Thesis Supervisor, and in order for a student to graduate with an M.A. degree, s/he must pass this defense.

Scholarship and Tuition Fee

  1. Scholarship: We are committed to attracting talented students and will provide some scholarships contingent upon academic background and performance as well as the availability of funding for that academic year.

  2. Tuition fees: 500 dollars/semester

*Application fee: 80,000 Riels
