Assessment
The course is assessed either through completed coursework or a combination of coursework and dissertation, depending on which degree path is chosen by students.
• Coursework: Students are assessed through in-class exams, homework, projects and a 5,000-word assignment for each subject. A detailed assessment guideline for coursework is provided during the early stages of each subject.
• Dissertation. Those who choose the minor thesis course structure are required to submit a 10,000 word dissertation on an approved topic. An outline, including guidelines for writing dissertations and dissertation supervision is distributed to prospective candidates.
Application Procedures
Prospective students apply directly to the M.A. in TESOL Program at the Department of English, Institute of Foreign Languages, Royal University of Phnom Penh. They do so by:
Picking up an application form from the Receptionist on the ground floor of Building E.
Filling out all the information required by the M.A. Program administrative staff of the Department of English.
Submitting the completed application form to the Department of English, making sure to attach:
original or certified copies of academic qualifications and transcripts;
original or certified copies of evidence of English language proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS scores); and
any other information specified in the entry requirements.
Teaching and Learning
Each subject consists of thirty 1.5 hour session, taught as part of the weekly program. Teaching and learning strategies include lectures, presentations, small group work, group discussion, independent study, mini-tasks and workshops. Courses taught by expatriate staff are usually undertaken as intensive teaching courses over a period of three weeks.
