Vision and Expectations
Under the tutelage of the Department of English within the Institute of Foreign Languages, the Master of Arts in TESOL program embraces a dynamic and strategic vision to provide practical, relevant advanced-level English language education, focusing on applied linguistics and language research. Students who complete the Master of Arts in TESOL at the Royal University of Phnom Penh will have: acquired an advanced-level understanding of the concepts, current issues and research methods in the core areas of English language education and applied linguistics; gained specialist knowledge and research techniques in English language teaching and other related issues; and completed a focused piece of research (if undertaking the thesis strand of the course).

Goals
The Master of Arts in TESOL program at the Royal University of Phnom Penh seeks:

to enable students to consolidate professional competence as practitioners in teaching and programming English language education; to develop students’ awareness of  the empirical relevance and applications of theoretical issues in linguistics, and, where appropriate, to actively explore these issues in the context of their own experience of language as learners, teachers, managers and researchers; to develop students’ understanding of the linguistic dimensions of cultural diversity, globalization and social change; to give participants the opportunity to reflect on the applications of thier professional knowledge in a range of educational contexts; and to extend participants’ ability to work autonomously in a specific area of interest.
