New Identity? National, International, and Global

Abstract

Although the term "globalisation" is frequently used in today’s world, we seldom question the substance of it. In this lecture, the substance of being global will be explored in order to bring about betterment in this world. At the same time, the speaker will talk about the role of young people, including university students, in the process of the creation of a better world.

Prof. Dr Hisanori Kato's Biography

Prof. Dr Hisanori Kato obtained Master of Arts with Merit and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney. He is specialised in Southeast Asian Area Studies, looking at the relationship between society and religion. He has done much research on Islam and Indonesia and has published articles and books. These include Religion and Civilisation, Islam in the eyes of a Japanese, The Clash of Ijtijad, the Future of Civilisation(co-author).

He received Toynbee-Talbutt Award in 2012 and a representative of Presidential Friends of Indonesia in 2014. He is Vice-President of International Society for the Comparative Study of Civilizations.
