The Workshop

Mastering "Speaking to Connect" and effective communication

On 19 August 2026, students and lecturers from the Department of Supply Chain and Automation Engineering (SCA) had the valuable opportunity to attend the 3rd session of the MBTI Training Workshop, led by our honourable guest speaker from Brighton Academy.

Building upon the self-awareness and personality preference dynamics explored in previous sessions, this 3rd workshop delved into the core art of “Speaking to Connect” and high-impact interpersonal communication. The session focused deeply on the four foundational elements that help us truly connect: Voice, Body, Message, and Audience.

Through hands-on practice, stage time presentations, and engaging discussions, participants learned how to align their vocal tone, body language, and core message to resonate effectively with different types of audiences and build stronger, lasting relationships.

What the Session Covered

The 4 key elements of speaking to connect

Connecting with an audience requires more than just delivering words; it is the harmonious alignment of how we project, express, structure, and adapt our communication. The session broke down the four foundational elements of impactful connection:

01
Voice: Tone & Vocal Dynamics
Mastering pitch, pace, volume, and modulation to project confidence, keep listeners engaged, and authentically express intent and emotion.
02
Body: Non-Verbal Presence
Harnessing body language, posture, eye contact, and gestures to reinforce the spoken word, build trust, and maintain open, approachable rapport.
03
Message: Core Clarity & Structure
Crafting a concise, compelling, and purposeful core message that delivers value, avoids ambiguity, and leaves a memorable impression.
04
Audience: Empathy & Resonance
Understanding differing listener backgrounds, expectations, and personality preferences to tailor delivery and build lasting, meaningful relationships.
Key takeaway

True communication happens when Voice, Body, Message, and Audience are in complete harmony. In engineering and supply chain leadership, technical expertise must be paired with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and connect empathetically with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Practical Application

Stage time, live practice, and active engagement

Putting theory into immediate action, participants took the stage to practice public speaking fundamentals, receiving constructive feedback on vocal delivery, posture, and audience connection in a supportive, interactive learning environment.
