Department of Vietnamese Studies (D.V.N.S)

Introduction

The Department of Vietnamese Studies was established at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) within the Institute for International Studies and Public Policy (IISPP), following a proclamation issued by the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports in November 2021. Its creation is a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation and bilateral relations between Cambodia and Vietnam in the field of higher education.

The department offers a range of Bachelor's degree programs, including Vietnamese Studies, Vietnamese Translation, and Vietnamese for Business Communication. It functions similarly to other foreign language and area studies departments at RUPP, providing Cambodian students with the linguistic and cultural competence necessary for regional engagement. A key objective is to provide Cambodian scholarship students with the necessary Vietnamese language training before they travel to Vietnam for further studies, eliminating the need for an intermediary language and easing their academic transition.

Vision

To be the leading national center of excellence in the study of Vietnamese language, culture, society, and bilateral relations, contributing significantly to Cambodia's regional engagement and human resource development.

Mission

To equip students with high-level proficiency in the Vietnamese language and a deep, comprehensive understanding of Vietnamese culture, history, economy, and politics, thereby enabling them to serve as skilled professionals, translators, and cross-border communicators.

Goal

To strengthen Cambodia-Vietnam cooperation by creating a new generation of Cambodian graduates who possess the linguistic and specialized knowledge required for successful careers in international affairs, diplomacy, business, and education between the two nations and within the wider ASEAN community.
