Workshop on the Development of a Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Policy

The Department of Bio-Engineering organized an internal workshop to develop a comprehensive Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) framework for its teaching and research laboratories.
The workshop aimed to develop three key resources:
- An institutional SHE Policy Handbook
- A SHE Guidebook for Students
- A Visual SHE Safety Guidebook
These resources will guide students, lecturers, laboratory personnel, and researchers before and during academic and research experiments conducted across the Department’s laboratories.
The SHE Policy Handbook establishes mandatory principles and procedures to promote safety-conscious, responsible, and environmentally sustainable laboratory practices. It includes 21 essential policies addressing laboratory safety, occupational health, emergency preparedness, responsible conduct, and the environmental impacts of laboratory activities.
Through this initiative, the Department of Bio-Engineering strengthens its commitment to building a culture of safety, protecting the health and well-being of laboratory users, minimizing environmental risks, and continuously improving the quality of teaching and research.
